The Shareware Industry sure has changed over
the last 15 years. I can remember going to "Shareware Stores", as a teenager, where the proprietors would charge $1.50-$3.00 per disk filled with great Shareware gems - Mahjong, Wolfenstein, PKZip, Klondike, Captain Keen and more, just to name a few. The only other modality for distribution was "word of floppy". If your program was good, people would pass it on.
In a world where the floppy disk has become
nearly as obsolete as the record player, and your many competitors are offering 30-day trials or freeware which can be used indefinitely, capturing your potential customers' attention and devotion is becoming next to impossible. Word of mouth is no longer sufficient in a world where hundreds of millions of users have access to page after page of software. Something more is needed.

The answer is market presence. How
did programs like CuteFTP, WinZip, Go!Zilla, ICQ, and WinAmp get to the top? Not by word of mouth, not by being "the best" and not by relying on the Shareware Concept to do their marketing. They developed a strong market presence using targeted marketing. A market
presence that carried their names to every
internet surfer, every "wired" household.
You may be thinking, "How I can I afford targeted marketing like those big
guys?" The answer is simpler than you may think: Strength in numbers.
The Shareware Junction Banner Exchange allows you to deliver concentrated, effective marketing, targeted to the very people that want your product, by exchanging banners within the Shareware community. And best of all, it's free.
